World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

The upgrade of an item can be used to improve the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it can increase the rarity of an item or mark Level and boost additional stats.

Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specific amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's stats base increase when it is upgraded. This value is the sum of all of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high, depending on the upgrader you choose and the kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is due to how many perks have to be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.

Item level is a commonly used measure of power, and is visible on all tooltips for items. It is also used as a gating requirement while waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is limited to a lower level). The average item level can be found on the character sheet.

Utilizing the level of an item can help players compare the potency of gear when choosing to buy or sell. It's a measure of the item's condition and its quality. Comparing items from the inventory of a seller can be done by using the level of the item.

The level of the item can be checked by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the full description of the item, including its level. It can also be found by hovering an item with the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are many theories about how the level of an item is calculated. One theory is that the item level is a number that comes from a formula which calculates the value of an item's stats are worth. It considers that different perks are valued differently, and that gems in the sockets boost the value of the item. This can result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl which is usually close to Blizzard's real item level.

This is not the only factor that influences the value of an item. The location of where the item dropped can also alter its stats. For instance it can increase the item's haste or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level instances will have a higher value.

Item Stats

The stats of an item can determine the fate of an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the Best item upgrader." The stats of a base weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat mods which are then increased by the player's skill.

Item upgrades add to that by increasing certain stats on the item. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. A grey or white item level upgrade for instance, can only be upgraded one time, while an item that has rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at higher costs.

Another method to alter the stats of an item is to use affixes. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes are used to give items additional damage or other special abilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs) or to distinguish them by putting a name on them.

Presently, all affixes are able to be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by circling arrows. This will cost a specific amount of gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges as with other rerolling methods.

In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can select which of the available stats to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges of an item are based on the level of the item, but all items are guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within the range, unless it is an item level upgrade that is unique or an item that is a God roll from a boss of a raid.

This is another aspect that can be modified by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to boost. However, as with the base equipment, this would have to be done on a per-item basis, and the interface for comparing items will not show all the stats that could be gained or lost at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the likelihood of item discoveries as well as the properties that appear on loot drops and the strength of the properties. However, it does not, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player an opportunity to get better gear earlier in the game. This is especially beneficial in early game runs since players tend to prioritize the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

Luck can also increase the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chances that increase with each level of the item. They can also be enhanced by using anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons have the default Luck value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) for a further +40 luck or to boost the Luck of an item up to 140.

Additionally, certain items, such as the Hollow infused weapon can be used to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items are available in the shops or made with the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the success rate of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item in the event that it fails.

The success rate of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading the item and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased by so much, and the likelihood that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%.

The performance of an upgrades is also influenced by the Luck of that item. All items have an initial success rate of 25% and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the inventory items, so enchantment glint and other effects may be masked by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
