Upgrades to items are a method to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it can boost the rarity of an item or mark Level and boost additional stats.

Upgrades to gear in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a specific amount.

When an item gets upgraded, its stats increase in value. The value is the sum of all its upgraded benefits (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be costly, dependent on who you employ and what you do. This is due to how many perks need to be replaced to allow the item to be upgraded.

Item level is a popular measurement of power and can be found on all tooltips of items. It can also be used to limit how much PvP gear players can use since PvP is not available at a lower level. Players can see their average level of items on their character sheet.

Using the item level can help players evaluate the power of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's an indicator of the item's damage and its quality. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when examining the inventory of a seller.

The item level can be seen by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the full description of the item, as well as its level. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are various theories about how the calculation of the item's level is carried out. One theory is that the level is a number that comes from a formula which calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It considers that different perks are valued differently, and that gems in sockets increase the item's value. This can result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl which is usually quite close to the actual Blizzard level of the item.

However, this is not the only factor which determines the ilvl of an item, as the level of the region the item is dropped into can change the value of its stats, for example by adding a level to its haste or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more the ilvl than items from lower level instances.

Item Stats

Item stats are a big part of what determines the value of an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The stat modifications of a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then increased by the player's level.

The upgrades to items add by increasing certain stats of the item. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a gray or white item will only be upgraded once, whereas items with rare tiers can be upgraded many times, at higher costs.

Another method to alter the stats on an item is through affixes. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can be used to give the item additional damage, or give a specific capability to the item (such as reviving dead or reducing cooldowns), or make the item unique by giving a special name to the item.

Currently, all affixes can be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by the arrows that circle. It will cost a set amount of gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges, as with other methods of rerolling.

In addition to rerolling affixes, players can select which stats to be kept on an item when it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges of an item are determined by the level of the item, however all items are guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within the range, unless it is a unique item or a God roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could be changed by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes or choosing which stats to increase. Similar to the base equipment, it would have to be done per Best item upgrader, and the item comparison interface would not display all the possible stats simultaneously.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player boosts the chance of finding items and the properties that are generated by loot, and the intensity of these properties. It does not, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives players a possibility to obtain better gear in earlier waves and is thus more beneficial in the early game than later ones as most players prioritize higher weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.

Luck can also boost the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability which increases with each level and can be further increased through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. These items can be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to give +40 Luck, or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.

Furthermore some items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be used to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items are available from the shop or constructed using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent them from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.

The success rate of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of successfully upgrading the item upgrader kit and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on the extent to which the success rates can be improved, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing cannot exceed 100%..

The Luck of an item can also influence the effectiveness of an upgrade items. Each item has an average success rate of 25 percent and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent.

Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects could be obstructed by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
