How to Replace an Audi Car Key Replacement Cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor
Charles the Humble Technician shows how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is situated on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
It is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 using a grey wire. The ECU utilizes this information to control the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.
The sensor is used to connect the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and the location of the camshaft to trigger the spark and injectors.
If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of the possibility of a chain stretch or jumped chain link in the upper chain. However, the error code won't appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).
It is a little tricky to test as there are different connector pins, and they all have different functions. The best method for doing this is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read about 1000 ohms if the sensor is at full operation. If you're experiencing issues with this component, look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at a high speed, i noticed a huge decrease in power. It was like the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was dry. I placed a tissue over each injector hole and when I turn the engine on without sparks, the three with gazoline jump out. The fourth one remains closed. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got zero ohm. I assume that the problem is somewhere else.
I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it is running fine with the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem persists at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when it is unplugged, shows temperatures of -49c. I also noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.
I'm not sure what to do, but i feel i have pretty much ruled out everything else. But i'm worried that I may have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please chime in! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find a spare in a wrecking shop or a parts store. It is simple to test them to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and audi New key take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's side). They must be infinite Ohms.
4. ECU
The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines must know both the position and speed of the crankshaft to determine fuel injector timing, etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. Some of the signs of a failed G28 sensor are an inaccurate gearbox rev counter, gears shifting quicker than normal and/or misfiring when you're in gear. It is likely that your sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you encounter any of these signs. The good news is they are very affordable and easy to find particularly if you're looking at an Bosch sensor, which is what ours are. Alternatively, the GM version of this part is also a good option.
5. Tachometer
A malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a myriad of issues in your car. It is a crucial part of the audi q7 key's transmission because it communicates to the ECU about how fast or slow the car's crankshaft is turning. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other components in the car to be affected.
The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire. The ECU uses this signal to regulate the flow of fuel and boost as well as timig. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. Additionally, you can verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. There should be the resistance to be around 1000 ohms in these areas.
