Upgrades can boost the value of weapons, armors and rings. They also boost extra bonuses such as damage from PvE and crit chance.

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases with item's level.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armor and trinkets in order to give them a stat boost or an extra effect. They can be obtained through making crafts, buying from vendors, trading with other players or looting. Some upgrades have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be placed in equipment that has a slot to accommodate them. The item must have been at the very least upgraded to blue level in order for the component to be inserted. In contrast to other mods components can only be used once and can't be used multiple times or replaced by new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a special kind of upgrade component that is that is designed for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment and some of the non-ascended back items. Enrichments and Infusions can be obtained by salvaging equipment that is ascended or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

A prefix or suffix may be added to an upgrade, changing the name of the item it's used on (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' is changed to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, which allows players to create stronger versions of the equipment that require fewer upgrade item Crystals than are required to achieve the same level of upgrade through normal methods.

A 'boost' upgrade can change the attack or defence characteristics of the weapon or armor. Once the player has completed the cutscene and defeated the Crazed Mechanist the upgrades can be created at the Portative Forging Station. These upgrades are available for purchase them in the cash shop or getting them from enemies while upgrading other equipment.

Each upgrade increases the probability that a higher tier version of the item will be available in the next reset. This gives the player an incentive to continue upgrading their gear even if they're uncertain of how much they'll improve after a future reset.

Whether a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process could be costly, and there is a high risk that the item may be obsolete or even break when it fails. A unsuccessful upgrade could ruin the Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. Cash shop items can be used to minimize or eliminate the risk of failure. Glyphs

Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs, you will have to put them on your equipment. Each Glyph will unlock a unique bonus that can boost a particular set of stat nodes that are within a radius of the Glyph. It can be +40 for one of your primary stats or +25 for two of your secondary stats, based on the Glyph.

The use of a Glyph can boost all nodes that are connected to it, so you should try to place your Glyphs near the most important nodes of the Graph to maximize the impact. Druids, for instance should position their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They may be able to place them near their primary damage nodes.

Leveling

The upgrade system for items lets players increase the stats of specific items by putting upgraded components into them. This is also known as "upping". Every upgradeable item upgrader mod (Read the Full Report) has a level that determines its upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be leveled to a maximum of ilvl 385. Each item level requires different components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.

If the player has enough tokens they can roll item upgrade upgrades. This will cause the item to be exchanged for a brand new one, with an initial level and a different set of extra bonuses. Certain upgrades can boost their value and allow players to personalize their gear.
