Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. Upgrades also increase bonuses such as crit chance and PvE Damage.

For instance, a weapon with the upgrade template ending in % will take on an attack damage of 3% each time it upgrades (relative to its previous value).

The cost for upgrading items increases when they reach the item's current level. The cost increases as the item level rises.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to trinkets, armor, and weapons in order to provide them with a boost in stats or to add an additional effect. These can be obtained by making crafts, buying from vendors or trading with other players, or looting. Some upgrades have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be placed in equipment with a slot for them. The item must have been at least upgraded to the blue level for a component to be used. Like other mods, upgrade components can only be used once and cannot be applied repeatedly or replaced by new upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are a type of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascending equipment, as other items that are not ascended. Enrichments and Infusions can be obtained by salvaging equipment that is ascended or completing a quest in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade can be prefixed or a suffix changing the name of the equipment with which it is applied (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia" becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players to create stronger versions of the equipment using the smallest amount of Upgrade Crystals than is required to reach the same level of upgrade using normal methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defense characteristics of a weapon or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist the upgrades can be made at the Portative Forging Station. They can be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear or by buying them in the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals each.

The player can have a maximum of five boost upgrades at one time. Each upgrade increases the chance that a higher-level version of the item will appear during the next reset. Requirements
