The item upgrade lets players increase the gear rating of an item by up 700 points and also add a final bonus. Items can be upgraded if they are in your inventory and you decide to take them to the kiln.

Certain items can be upp'd to increase their stats (like an ideally broken point armour that is rolled for melee PvP) while others like weapons do not change significantly after an upgrade and thus aren't worth upgrading.

Weapons

A weapon's upgrade costs depend on the rarity of the weapon and its current level. For example, an +2 weapon requires two regular Smithing Stones while a+3 requires four. The number of stones needed to upgrade a weapon will increase until it requires more Smithing Stones. At that point it will reset to one.

Upgrades to weapons will also reroll the stats of their base. This is usually a good factor, but it could also have negative effects. Upgrades can make things unusable, unless you are very lucky.

Items of armor can also be upgraded to improve their stats. In the case of chests or helms this will increase its defense base while gloves and belts will enhance their required strength and dexterity. Armor also offers the option of rerolling its Enhanced Defense percentage, which means that it could change its roll to a lower value.

The upgrade template of a weapon will display the new stats it will gain after upgrading, along with the relative values of those stats. This means that a change from a sword that has 8 damage to an 11-attack-damage sword would result in a weapon receiving an attack damage of 3. However the 3% does not mean that it will be hit 3 times less often because it's an absolute number.

Rerolling a weapon can be possible by pressing the green button within the item menu, using the arrows that circle. This will roll an item level upgrade and alter its stats but not reset the weapon's levels or bind it to account status.

Armor

Adding a few upgrades to your armor can make a an enormous difference in your capacity to withstand. Certain sets can offer MASSIVE increases in poison, curse, fire and magic resistance, making traversing tough areas a breeze. In general, the more defense you can offer your character, the more health you'll receive from each point. Therefore, it is recommended to upgrade your armor.

You can upgrade your armor by visiting one of the Great Fairy Fountains. There are four in total and each one requires you to complete a specific side quest involving the Stable Trotters musical troupe. Once you've done the main side quest and mastered the fountain in question, you can then talk to any Great Fairy to open up the armor upgrading menu.

The amount of material needed to upgrade each piece of armor will vary. In general, you'll need at anything from three to ten Red Chuchu jellies and 10 Rupees for the initial upgrade, and anywhere between five Rubies and ten Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns for each subsequent upgrade. The Champion Leathers, for instance can be upgraded to an increase of 5 defense rating, which allows you to remain competitive in frigid environments with a large group of adversaries. The Snowquill Headdress, on the other hand, can be upgraded as high as +20 defense to ensure you're able to withstand a rout with friends.

You can't upgrade your armor in the same way as weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior then you should concentrate on upgrading your armor for physical strength or spell power. It is recommended to save your armor upgrades to upgrade the armor you'll still be wearing by the end of the story, such as the Ring of Lightning, Spectral Shield or the mask you'll wear in the final boss fight the Monter Parts Merchant Mask.

You can also get some benefits to your armor by presenting the jeweler at Gerudo Town 10 Twinkling Titanite. You'll generally want to save these upgrades to the weapon that you'll use to beat the game. For instance, the Longsword or Battleaxe. However, it's beneficial to have some upgrades to the helmets and chest armor to allow you to sneak around some monsters.

Potions

To upgrade a potion simply right-click on it in your inventory. Then, select "Upgrade" from the menu. In addition to weapons, armor and potions, players can upgrade their trinkets. They can be upgraded by visiting an upgrade vendor and paying the appropriate currency. Unlike other item upgrader kit upgrades trinkets, trinkets can be swapped out at will without losing their stats.

The upgrade vendors are located in major cities and in the capital of each zone, and in in dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets are available using tokens, gold or fragments of a rare trinket.

Upgrading a trinket is an affordable alternative to buying an entirely new one. One can upgrade a trinket with just 12 tokens. The new trinket will have the same level of base as the previous trinket but will also have an additional bonus of 1% upgrade.

When the old Trinkets are no longer usable they can be upgraded. This allows a player to increase their power and value with time. They can be traded among players, making them an alternative to gold.

In general players should upgrade their top-priority items first. This means that the best-in slot items for each class are upgraded first then their secondary gear, and then other equipment that they won't replace anytime soon (such as a ring or an cloak). It is also important to consider your class's preferred stats when selecting which items to upgrade. For instance when Haste and Crit are the two most important stats for tanks it is recommended that they upgrade their chest, helm shoulders, belt, and chest.

Trinkets can be re-upgraded to a higher level once they're no longer needed and the new trinket will have an additional 1% upgrade bonus. However, a re-upgrade can destroy the old trinket, unless it is salvaged using the Black Lion Salvage Kit or a higher-tier salvage tool. Upgrades to trinkets are more expensive than other upgrades but still less expensive than purchasing new ones.
