Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses such as PvE damage and crit chance.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to trinkets, weapons and armor in order to give them a boost in stats or add a bonus effect. They can be obtained through crafting, buying from vendors or trading with other players, or looting. Some upgrades also have specific cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into equipment that has a slot to accommodate them. The item must have been at a minimum upgraded to blue level in order for the component to be inserted. Upgrade components, unlike other mods can only be applied once. They are not able to be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and Enrichments are a type of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascended equipment, as well as some non-ascended items.
