Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses, such as damage from PvE and crit chance.

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item upgrader kit's level. The cost increases as the level of the item rises.

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into weapons, armor and trinkets to give them a stat boost or an extra effect. They can be obtained through making crafts, buying from vendors, trading with other players, or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components are only available to devices that have slots. The item upgrade must be upgraded to a blue level before the component can be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied only once. They cannot be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and enrichments are a special type of upgrade component used for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment and some of the items that are not ascending back. Enrichments and Infusions can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

A prefix or suffix may be added to an upgrade, changing the name of the item it is used on (for example, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' becomes Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players to make stronger versions of the equipment that require less Upgrade Crystals than would be required to reach the same upgrade level through normal methods.

A boost upgrade can change the attack or defence characteristics of the weapon or armor. These upgrades are available to be made from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene, and defeats the Crazed mechanic. They can also be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear or purchasing them from the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals per.

The player can get a maximum of five boost upgrades at a time; each upgrade increases the chance that a better-quality version of the item will appear during the next reset. This gives players a reason to upgrade their gear even when they're not sure how much it will be improved following an update.

The process of upgrading an item could be costly and it's possible that the item will be obsolete or even break if the upgrade is unsuccessful. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed when an upgrade fails. Leveling

The upgrade item system for items lets players increase the performance of certain items by placing upgraded components inside them. This is also known as "upping". Each upgradeable item has a level that determines its upgraded stats. Upgraded items may be leveled up to a maximum level of 385. Each level of an item requires a different number of components to be reached and the cost of upgrading increase as the item is upgraded.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by making Upgrade Recipes. These recipes are available in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, or purchased from some NPCs. Each completed Upgrade Recipe earns several Technology Points. These points can be used to level the item, and when enough points are earned, the upgrade will be claimed and its additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When a player upgrades the equipment they have, the base item is replaced by a new item. This means that the same armor piece will get an weapon or shield once upgraded. The new item will come with a bonus of its own. This could be a drawback, as it can make the item more expensive if you don't require it.

If the player has enough tokens, they can roll the upgrade of their item. This causes the item to be exchanged for a brand new one, with an initial level and a totally different set of bonuses. This can be beneficial, but should not be repeated often since it could waste resources.

Some upgrades can increase their value and allow players to personalize their equipment.
