Item upgrading allows players to upgrade their weapons and equipment with new affixes that boost the base stats of the item or adding additional perks. To upgrade an item level upgrade, the player needs to have it in their inventory as well as access to the kiln.

Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some significant differences from the previous versions. Gear is now categorised in tracks, and each item can only be upgraded as many times before it's "leveled out."
