This calculation determines the new Armor Class bonuses, damage dice, and other vital statistics. In certain cases the upgrade can grant additional benefits that can be chosen from a list of benefits.
In rare instances the upgrade will only replace the highest-costing benefits. Sometimes, the upgrader will make other modifications to an item, such as changing its weapon damage type or adding or removing an unwieldy or operational property. The cost of these changes is determined by the item's new ilvl, and it could require a specific material, such as the adamantine alloy.
Success Rate
The upgrade of an item is based on chance. Like any random system there is a chance that it will not succeed. However there are a few things that can increase the chances of success. This includes using an Upgrade Pity or the addition extra materials to your upgrade.
The Upgrade Pity is available through the NPC for smithing in Lost Ark. It increases the chances of a successful upgrade by some percentage. It's similar to the "luck bonus" that certain items provide, but it is more solid. It can be added to any weapons or armor and can be used three times.
You can also add additional components to the upgrade to increase its chances of success. These are shown in a separate window, above the + button. There are a few limitations. The maximum amount of material you can upload is shown directly above the + button.
Another way to increase the chance of an upgrade achieving success is by using the item known as a Blacksmith Blessing or an upgraded version of it. This item is helpful in the event that you have an item or weapon equipment that is at the maximum level for its tier or is close to it. This item will allow you upgrade the equipment to the next level without the risk of breaking.
If an upgrade fails it will be restored to its original state. This is typically a downgrade, but could also be an upgrade. It is an excellent idea to save upgrades for when you are close to the maximum capacity of an item, and use it as an option last resort.
