Path of Exile Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a common and crucial method to enhance the performance of many items in Path of Exile. They can cause additional damage, AD or even affixes.

Rare-grade equipment can be superior to the more modernized Common or Magic equipment because of their high requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a form of upgrade that can be used on weapons and armor items. They increase the effectiveness of the item that they're connected to. Armor upgrades are found in the game's world and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. Alternately, they can be rescued from items with upgrade components within them by using an expert or greater salvage kit.

The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it can absorb. The absorption of damage by an item of armor will increase when it's upgraded to its maximum upgrade level. However, it's important note that this will also raise its weight, requiring it to weigh more than it was before.

There are a variety of armor upgrades available in the game. Each has a different impact. For instance, certain upgrades will give the armor a certain amount of health points while others will make it lighter and stronger. The name of the armor upgrade will tell you the kind of upgrade the item can receive, as shown below.

Certain upgrades require magic or a combination of technology and magic, which is shown by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table below. Additionally, some upgrades require charges to use, which is identified by the "Charges" entry in the table below. The charges for these upgrades are updated every day or never expire, depending on the upgrade.

The cheapest method of upgrading armor is to use Iron Ore, which can be gathered by exploring the area and looting small loot chests. Titanium is more costly, but is readily available at the smelters in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Some upgrades, such as the Reforge and the Hot Potato Books, can only be applied to higher level armor pieces. These upgrades can give significant improvement in stats and are a worthwhile investment, particularly for one-handed weapons.

The process of upgrading an armor piece to its maximum upgrade level will significantly boost its defense but the wearer must be aware that putting on weight will drastically reduce its speed and agility. It is not recommended to upgrade armor past +9. The defensive boost gained usually isn't worth the weight and power expenses of the upgrades.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades give players to enhance certain aspects of their weapon. Upgrades can increase the accuracy of a rifle, or the damage that shotgun shells cause. Certain weapons also come with enhancements that enhance their intrinsic qualities. They include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and minimizes the risk of overheating) and Kinetic Coils (increases the speed of projectiles to cause more damage).

Most weapon upgrades require one of three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons, and a whetblade for applying. These can be gained by completing Side Quests or by killing a certain amount of monsters and bosses.

To upgrade the weapon, equipment set piece, or Whetblade You must go to the NPC [ArmorBoboko. Boboko located in Central Flarine, and pay her an upgrade fee of a certain amount of bars. The more bars you need to complete an upgrade the higher the level. If you have multiple upgrade materials the cost of upgrading will be less.

In Chapter 2: Season 5, the ways to upgrade your equipment and weapon sets changed a little. Previously you could go to an Upgrade Bench and pay for a specific amount of Bars to upgrade your weapon or equipment to an increased rarity. You could do this until you reached the max upgrade level of the equipment or weapon, after which the upgrades would be reset.

You can still do this but the process is based on RNG and low on agency. You should consider buying equipment with minimal upgrade levels and high base scores and stat distributions. These will be able to give you the most prestigious perks and blessings.

Most players will want to prioritize upgrades to the weapons they use most frequently to allow them to progress quicker. Players should also upgrade items the weapons that their squadmates use to make them stronger. For instance, Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R, which will enhance its effectiveness when paired with biotech specialists such as Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels are placed in the sockets of armor and weapons, enhancing the stats of a weapon and providing additional effects. Jewelry crafting is a method of making them, in which you combine a gemstone with a number specific reagents on a jewelry table. The higher the grade of the gem, the greater the secondary effect. These reagents are obtained in the world from Treasure Goblins, World Bosses and occasionally by salvaging Legendary gear. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Prism.

The Jeweler can improve the quality of the gem in stages that range from Crude up to Royal. Depending on the tier of the gem it will give different stat boost when slotted into weapons, gear and jewelry.

The Jeweler can create all kinds of gems, apart from the rare and legendary ones which you must attain an appropriate level to obtain. Like other upgrade components jewels can be swapped with another jewel of the same type without destroying it. You can only replace the gem once within an item of equipment.

Using more jewels in the movement will make it more smooth and is typically used for aesthetic reasons. In addition to enhancing performance, the jewels create a surface that is harder than metal, so repeated friction from pivots doesn't damage them as easily.

A Glyphmaster can offer glyphs to improve the appearance of your weapons and shields. These provide a small bonus and are able to be swapped easily, but are not guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded, like jewelry, at the Jeweler for gold, and also a scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be taken out from the inventory, and they are returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components such as traits or aegis cannot be exchanged, and can only be recovered through an upgrade extractor or salvaging using Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets can be used to give your character many small, but useful, benefits. You can find them in the start-up area as loot or personal story rewards. They are also available from vendors and by doing road interaction. They can also be found on the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.

The first trinkets that a player unlocks will be the cloak. It grants a small but useful bonus to movement speed and the ability to escape. The player can then acquire necklaces, rings, and amulets in a similar fashion as they did with weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment comes with an upgrade slot that can be either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades are smaller and can be used on any piece of equipment. Jewels are not upgradeable or replaced and are only compatible with certain trinkets.

These trinkets grant additional buffs and abilities that are active when the hero isn't fighting. This allows a hero to be more efficient when they are not active. It can also compensate for the lack of a good slots in the team or talent tree which are usually filled by the hero's optimal stats.

In general trinket upgrades should be prioritized over BiS (Best in Slot) items that you aren't likely to replace anytime soon. Then, you should consider any items with desirable statistics that aren't as important as the iLevel for the item upgrades to be upgraded. This is especially true when you want to upgrade multiple statistics on an item. It's best to upgrade just one crucial stat instead of two subpar ones.

Jungle players will often upgrade their yellow trinket to a red one at the beginning of the game. Mid and top players, on the other hand they will select either a pink or green ward, depending on the matchup. These choices can impact the ability of a hero to control the map.

In addition to the items mentioned above, players will also find other trinkets in the form of trophies and rewards throughout the game. They can be obtained by completing certain milestones in the story. For instance, completing a chapter’s main quest or defeating the boss. You can view them by clicking on the achievement in the reward section of the hero's menu.
