Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it can raise an item's Mark level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.

Item Level

The level of the item can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the full description of the item upgrade, including its level. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.

There are several theories about how the calculation of the item's level is made. Item Stats

Stats on an item upgrader mod are a significant element in what makes or breaks an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the Best item upgrade." The base stats on a weapon are increased by the weapon's stat modifications which are then enhanced by the player's level.

The upgrades to items add by increasing certain stats of the item. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. A grey or white item for instance, can only be upgraded one time however, items with rare tiers can be upgraded several times at higher prices.

Another method to alter the stats on an item is to use affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and are available in all sizes and shapes. All affixes are being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade window, pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold as well as items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other options for rerolling.

In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may also choose which of the available stats to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However each item will contain at least one stat in that range unless they are an item that is unique or the item is a God Roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could be changed is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to roll the attachments, or pick which stats to enhance. Like the base equipment, this must be done per item and the item comparison interface will not show all possible stats simultaneously.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the likelihood of item discoveries as well as the properties that appear on loot drops, and the intensity of the properties. It does not, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives the player a chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game and is thus more beneficial in early game runs than later ones because most players value more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each new level of item. These can also be enhanced by using anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor and weapons come with the default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on their material type) to add another 40 luck or to increase the luck of the item to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow, can also be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any skill that is able to deal damage by 5%. These items are available in the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Item upgrades are expensive and not all upgrades will be successful. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to increase their chance of success or stop them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful.

The rate of success of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading the item, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to how much success rates can be increased and the probability of an upgrade failing cannot exceed 100%..

The success of an upgrades is also influenced by the Luck of that item. Every item has an initial success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases the chance of success by an additional five percent.

Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects could be masked by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
