Upgrading gear increases its base stats, and sometimes boosts its extras. The value of these upgrades is determined by their tiers, requirements and the number of random augmentations applied.

Reroll Tokens

Legendary upgrades require three legendary pieces.
In contrast to other special tokens and markers that are placed on Action spaces the reroll marker stays on the spot until the next successful result is rerolled. This lets you avoid wasting upgrades.
Blueprints are envelopes that appear at the beginning of each Preparation phase. They can be opened with Interact by grasping them. Upgrading an item can increase its Mark Level and/or Rarity. Some upgrade components come with additional modifiers that can improve the item's stats.
The upgrade to the helm "Foundation of the Sun" for instance, increases defense base and gives an additional 20% chance to block. Additionally the dps upgrade "Wildfire" boosts weapon damage.
Some items are better off being upgraded less for their increased stats, but for the fact that it allows players to get the most value out of a perfect roll on the item. For instance, a flawlessly rolled 200/6 504 armor set piece is highly sought-after in the melee PvP community and could be worth 20-50 times the value of the unupp'd version.
