It's a great way to increase the level of your equipment, allowing you to avoid the tedious grind of completing quests and avoid numerous wipes in Mythicand dungeons.
When an item is upgraded its type of base changes. Upgrading a normal item will create an Exceptional item, while upgrading an Exceptional item will result in an elite version of the same base item. The Best item upgrader will be able to keep all of its prior upgrade statistics however it will also get an additional bonus from its new base type. This bonus will be randomly selected from the following categories: the chance to acquire a weapon with an increased damage range and a chance to gain an enhanced reload speed or the chance to obtain an increased defense roll.
The amount of extras you can get by upgrading is contingent on the number of upgrades performed. Each upgrade will increase the number of extras by three points maximum. Additionally, every upgrade will also increase the main stat by +1.
Certain upgrades also give additional random boosts in addition to stat increases. These boosts can be extremely valuable and must be considered when choosing which items to upgrade. Certain items come with inherent boo, which is not beneficial when upgraded, for example the Goldwrap which provides more slots for potion. They are often upgraded to add value to a near-perfect or perfect Best item upgrade.
Costs
Upgrades have some associated costs. The first is the upgrade itself. This cost depends on the item's new ilvl and the number of perks it will gain and can be costly. Upgrades to higher levels (such as Explorer to Champion or Veteran to Heroic) can be costly.
The second is the cost of materials required to upgrade. These items are typically Power Dices (dropped from monsters 21+), Minerals and Erons or specific Mists Of Pandaria or Warlords Of Draenor Quests. The amount of these materials required is available in the inventory of an upgrade vendor.
It takes time to upgrade an item. Depending on the size of the upgrade, it could take up to 8 hours. The stats that are the base of the upgraded item are calculated based on its new ilvl as well as other characteristics. This calculation determines the latest Armor Class bonus, damage dice, as well as other important stats. In certain cases upgrades can provide additional perks. These perks are available on a list.
In rare instances the upgrade will replace only the highest-costing perks. Sometimes, the upgrader will make other adjustments to an item, for example, changing the damage type of a weapon or or removing an unwieldy or operative property. The cost for these changes is determined by the item's current ilvl and it may require a special substance, such as the adamantine alloy.
Success Rate
Upgrades to items are based on the chance of success, and as with any random system there is the possibility that the upgrade won't succeed. There are a number of ways to increase your chances of success. This includes using an item known as an Upgrade Pity or the addition of additional items to the upgrade.
The Upgrade Pity can be bought from the NPC for crafting in Lost Ark. It increases the chance of an upgrade being successful by some percentage. It is similar to the "luck bonus" that some items offer, but it is more reliable. This can be added to any weapons or armor, and is used three times.
You can also add additional components to the upgrade to increase the chance of success. These are shown in a separate window, above the + button. There are a few limitations. The maximum amount of material you can add is displayed directly above the + button.

This item lets you upgrade the equipment to the next level without the risk of it breaking.
If an upgrade is unsuccessful it will be returned to its original state. This is often a downgrade, but can also be an upgrade. It is a good idea to save upgrades for when you are close to the maximum capacity of an item upgrading, and to use it as an option last resort.
There are many items in the Kafra shop that can be used to boost the likelihood of a successful upgrade. As you progress in rank, the chances of success diminish. However, you can use cash shop items to increase the chances of completing an upgrade successfully.
