Item Level

The level of an item is a widely used measure of power, and can be found on all tooltips of items. It also serves to limit how much PvP gear players can use as PvP is restricted at a lower level. The average level of the item is listed on the character sheet.

When deciding whether to purchase or sell gear players can evaluate the levels of the item. It's a sign of the item's condition and its quality. The level of an item can be used to evaluate items when evaluating the inventory of a seller.

The level of the item can be seen by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the full description of the item, as well as its value. It can also be found by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are various theories about how the calculation of the item's level is made. Item Stats

The item's stats can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game uses a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The base stats of a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modifications which are then increased by the player's skill.

Upgrades to the item add by increasing certain stats of the item. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. A white or grey item for instance, will only be upgraded one time and items with rare tiers may be upgraded several times at more expensive costs.

Affixes are a different method to change an item's stats. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. Presently, all affixes are able to be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by the arrows that circle. This will cost a specific amount in gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges similar to other rerolling methods.

In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can also choose which of the available stats they want to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However, all items will have at least one stat in the range, unless they are an item that is unique, or an item that has a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

This is another thing that could be changed by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes or deciding which stats to boost. Like the base equipment, this will have to be done per item and the interface for item comparison will not show all possible stats at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player increases the likelihood of locating items and the properties that are generated by loot, and the intensity of these properties. It doesn't, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives players the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game and is therefore more useful in the early game than in later ones, since most players prefer greater weapon scaling and defense over the raw damage gain.

Luck can also increase the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading, which increases with each level and can be further enhanced through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons can spawn or be crafted by using the Luck property, which has a default value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the type of material) for a further +40 luck or to increase the luck of the item to 140.

Furthermore some items, such as the Hollow infused weapon can be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items are available in the shops or made with the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are costly and not all upgrades will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the success rate of an upgrade or to stop players from losing their items if it is not successful.

When you upgrade an item upgrader mod, the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased so high, and the probability that the upgrade will fail cannot be greater than 100%..

The success of an item upgrade is also affected by the Luck of that item. All items have an initial success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by an additional 5%.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects can be masked by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the item upgrader mod Upgrader CORE client config.
