Item upgrading allows players to improve their weapons and equipment with new affixes that boost its base stats or giving additional benefits. To upgrade an item, the player has to have it in their inventory as well as access to the kiln.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be added to armors, weapons trinkets, weapons, and gathering tools. They provide an attribute benefit, or additional effect, when the equipment is being used. Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some important variations from earlier versions. Gear is now divided into tracks and items can be upgraded a set number of times before they are "leveled out."
